Put-to-Light

Put-to-Light Systems, the Perfect Collaborative Solution for Automation-Assisted Productivity

Built to enhance manual picking accuracy and speed, this warehouse sortation aid combines automated illuminated pathways and LED-lit shelves to boost the efficiency of warehouse pickers.

The solution, also known as sort-to-light, targets the steps between:

  • Automated sorting, performed by automated parcel sorting systems, and
  • Putaway or shelving of the processed items—the parcels are placed into storage slots on the racks in the warehouse storage section, based on the WMS software’s smart decision-making.

Putaway Simplified: A Snapshot of How Quinta’s Put-to-Light Systems Drive Picking Speed

Thanks to smart put-to-light solutions by Quinta, implemented in warehouses, as soon as a warehouse worker scans the embossed or barcode-labelled code on a bin, the AIDC program triggers an alert.

When the alert ultimately reaches the “brain” of the automated warehouse workflow, the WMS system, certain storage slots in the shelving units, called putwall, are chosen based on the smart decision-making capabilities of the software. The LED on these specific racks light up, indicating where the items must go.

Now, hands-free, the employees can walk up to the correct slot to place the item(S)/shipment(s).

Moreover, given that storage areas are often like a maze of shelves, an illuminated path, integrated into the warehouse floor by Quinta experts, guides the employee, who then places the items in the slots, and must press a confirmation button to signal process completion.

The Efficiency Boost by Quinta’s Put-to-Light Systems

  • Express Putaway/Picking, Productivity Improved: Get your warehouse employees hitting the ground running, their hands free of code readers, as they follow the pathway and put wall lights, store items, confirm task completion, and repeat the process for other items.
  • Eliminate Putaway Errors, Confusion and Opportunity Cost Averted: Say goodbye to workers figuring out put wall slots. Do away with frequent mistakes made during manual putaway by leveraging automation-enabled put wall slot selection. Thus, the solution helps warehouses save precious work hours wasted on misplaced items, ensuring that such errors don’t incur opportunity costs.
  • Improved Putaway Ergonomics, More Items Picked: Without having to carry a barcode or RFID scanner, pickers can move freely. This is what makes put-to-light systems safer than manual putaway processes, while also allowing the workers to carry more items.
  • Reduced Training Time, Onboarding Hastened: Put-to-light-enabled picking and putaway are simple—scan the tote/chute, follow the light, and press the button on the slot to confirm task completion—making worker induction easier than the non-automated alternatives.

Are Put-to-Light systems cost-effective? Yes, they are; the cost depends on the scale and the quality of integrationputwall form factor, and other considerations that our experts are known to identify effortlessly.
